Millions of Russian sidecar motorcycles had to eke out an existence under the toughest conditions. They were pushed over bumpy roads in wind and weather, often mercilessly overloaded, always getting the maximum performance out of it and certainly not regularly serviced according to the manual. This may explain why many of the vehicles on the European market that are now getting on in years are in a neglected condition and urgently need a tending hand, despite rising prices. The many negative opinions about the Urals and Dnepr will seem exaggerated or even completely wrong to the friend of the Soviet motorcycle. Nevertheless, a Soviet motorcycle breaks down more often than a Western one. Last but not least, this helps us to a certain capacity to suffer, a lot of gallows humor and welds the scene together. A phenomenon as old as our motorcycles themselves. This book explains why that is. But it also shows what can be done to prevent most breakdowns - and it whets the appetite for the Soviet way of riding, waiting, cursing and loving.
